MITOLOGI atau TEOLOGI? Upaya Memahami Tradisi dan Religiositas Bali
Abstract
The article tries to describe the world the Balinese live, particularly the two opposing powers, namely the negative and the positive forces which influence deeply the way the Balinese lead their lives. Since these forces cannot be easily understood by ordinary people, and so they cannot properly live their religious lives, the role of the priests (Pedanda, Pamangku, etc.), medicine men and women (all kinds of Balian) and other mediums are of great importance. In time of troubles the people can always consult their problems to these elected ones who then recommed the best solutions the people need. The solutions would be any kind of rituals (offerings and sacrifices for the Dewas, propitiations for the Bhutas, cleansing rites, etc) which could maintain the balance between those two opposing powers. How does one call this complex way of life? One may proposes mythology and the other may prefers theology
